Busting on Minor Storms

Just a very quick note today. We originally forecasted North Platte Nebraska as a target zone today. As we left Beatrice this morning we had every intention of pushing westward across the state. As the cumulus field began to develop, we decided to dive a bit further south to see if storms developing in northern Kansas could tap into a bit more instability. It would prove to be a move we would come to regret: there is one lone red triangle on the entire U.S. map of severe weather reports…a brief tornado touchdown near our original North Platte target. It is clear that we didn’t miss a major event, but in a pattern as poor as this, a missed opportunity does sting a bit.
Tomorrow we will probably attempt to intercept storms once again in either Nebraska or South Dakota. Time will tell what hand we are dealt next time.
